The Treasurer’s Office

Monroe County serves approximately 166,000 residents in 16 townships and 4 boroughs.

The County Treasurer is responsible for managing all financial transactions related to the county, including the collection of taxes, fees, state and federal grants, and other revenues. The office is also responsible for the custody, disbursement, and record-keeping of all county funds. Payments for county obligations are made upon proper authorization, and the Treasurer is tasked with investing county funds. The Treasurer is a member of the Monroe County Retirement Board, along with the Commissioners and the Controller.

The County employee retirement system serves approximately 140 county retirees, with a retirement fund of approximately $143 million.

In addition to managing county finances, the Treasurer's office serves as an agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, issuing various licenses such as hunting, fishing, sportsman’s firearm pistol permit, dog, bingo, small games of chance, and other permits. It also collects the 3% hotel excise and short-term rental tax for the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau to promote tourism in Monroe County.
